What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

How did you attract/address your audience?

Who would be the audience for your media product?

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

How does your media product represent a particular social group?

Chosen image for double page spread

This is the image I choose for my contents page. I picked this one because she is facing the camera but it also looks relaxed and like she is happy with what she is doing. There is also a big space to the left where I can put the actual interview and a title or masthead whilst on the right hand side of the page, it will still be taken up with a big picture of the artist. This means it will not look to plain and will catch the eye of the reader/audience.

Chosen image for my new front cover

This is is the image I choose for my front cover. I choose it because it is facing straight onto the camera and when a person picks up the magazine she will be staring straight into there eyes which might draw them in. Sophie also looks confident and like she is a star and it may want to make people be like her and therefore buy my magazine.

Second draft of front cover

This is my second draft for my front cover. As you can see it has basically changed completely due to some problems I experienced. The first problem was that my first draft got deleted completely of my memory stick so had to start again and that my first model decided she didn't want to do it any more so therefore had to find another person that would do it. But even though the colours and the look of my magazine are completely different underneath it all it isn't. I have still kept the same cover lines and title so all that has really changed is the colours artist and the added bar code, price and date that I forgot to put on the first daft I did. Over all I feel this looks more sophisticated and better suited to my target audience than the last one and uses the house style from my contents page in some ways, for instance the floral pastel colours and black boxes with white writing in. But I will be totally sure of this once I have completed my focus group.

Draft of contents page after feedback whilst constructing it

This is my contents page after I got feedback from it whilst I was constructing it. I did use some of my feedback, for instance I made sure all the artical titles where all lined up to make it neat and tidy. I also got rid of the purple line separating the columns as they said it contrasted with the rest of the colouring and just didn't fit in; which after looking closely I agreed with there comment and got rid of it. The last thing I did was to line up the titles, features, to again make it look neater. I carried this through when constructing the rest of the contents page.

Learning how to prezi

I learnt and used prezi when I uploaded my article titles and when I presented the questions for the interview on my blog. I had never used it before and did find it difficult to find the correct layout for the presentation but other than that it found it easy to use. It also looks good as seen below and allows you to present thinks in very clear and neat way. I had to learn how to customize it and more importantly how to set the navigation on it when it is finished which is very different to Microsoft power point.

Pictures from photo shoot for double page spread

I decided to use a wall as a background because it is simple and so that it wouldn't be plain when the double
page spread is put together. You could also say it fits in with the indie side of my magazine because it may create an urban feel which is what I am trying to do considering my target audience is teenagers. It may also give the impression that the artist is fresh and straight of the streets which in a way she is. The costume I didn't really worry about that much as she is the age of my target audience so would dress that way anyway. As you can also see I took the pictures with Sophie doing different poses so that I would have lots of choice when it comes to putting the double page spread together.

Photo shoot for the new artist and new front cover

These are a few of the photos I took for the new front cover. I took these in portrait because of the shape of the front cover and it wouldn't look right if I tried to fit a landscape image on a portrait sized document because it would end up all squished and out of proportion. I took these outside because of the natural light and so that I could get the effect of her hair blowing in the wind. But I didn't do it against a particular background because I was going to use a plain colour for the background, so did it in my garden.

Images from photo shoot for contents page

I took these images mainly for my contents page. I wanted to have some kind of scenery behind Kate, the model, so that when it is on my contents page it doesn't look to plain (as I was going to use a white background).

I also took them in both portrait and landscape format so that I would have a choice on the size of the image when putting the page together. I also took them at very slightly different angles and told her to do different poses so that I had a wide range of pictures to choose from just incase I changed some of the layout or one didn't look right on the contents page.

Problems with front cover

I have had some issues with my front cover first all to improve my first version I needed to take some more pictures of my artist. But in the end I couldn't get hold of her, as she would not reply, so I have changed my model again.

My front cover was also wiped from my memory stick so I have had to start from scratch again.

Indesign Skills Development

To create my double page spread I learnt some new skills for indesign. For example I learnt how to put images in shapes and how to wrap text around an image. This could come in handy because when writing the text you do not want it to cover any of the image. I also learnt how to curve text if I wanted to make a masthead.

critique of front cover

Critical Evaluation of first draft and front cover
My front cover does give information about what my magazine is and what is inside of it. For example my cover lines state some of the articles that are included inside of it. My magazine is also called Lyric and that implies that it is a music magazine along with the cover lines. The cover lines are clear as I put them in colours that standout or in black boxes. My cover lines do not go over the face of the model but do go over the body of the model but I think this is okay as they can still see who is on the front cover. The main mast head font works but the font below them in the black boxes could be changed as it is very similar to the font above. I also feel the masthead is easy to read because of the colour. My white background works but to make it even better I could make the page a little bit more crowed as to much white space is showing. I do have a barcode but I haven’t added a date, price or issue number which I know is needed desperately. My front cover is bright and the model is of a suitable age so yes I feel it is suitable for my target audience. I have used most of the conventions but still need to add a date but over all it does look like a music magazine. This magazine does look how I intended it to be but there do need to be some adductions’ such as date and price. Plus possibly some of the font type changed.

Pre-production planning: early photoshop work

To create these titles I used photoshop. To create them I wrote contents and lyric in black block text, then rubbed out the middle to create the black outline. Finally I put a white square in the background and rubbed around the letters. So when put on the magazine only the letters will be white and the background a different colour.

Pre-production planning-Photo shoot and interview

For my photo shoot I have choosen a singer called Kayleigh Watson who will appear on the front cover and double page spread. The shoot will be held mostly outside so that I can get some good backdrops for the double page spread where as on the front cover there will just be a coloured background so location doesn't matter as much. But for the double page spread I was thinking about possibly a brick wall to give it that urban feel. I will also be taking pictures of other people as well to go on my contents page which will also be outside. the time and date of this still needs to be confirmed. The interview will be done at a different time which still needs to be arranged. There will also only be one prop which will be kayleighs guiter. Costumes will not be brightly coloured and will most probably be jeans and a jacket.

Pre-production planning; masthead designs

These are my masthead designs for the front cover of my magazine. I wanted to try out different designs so I draw a block, sketchy and a neat flow design to see what would suit my magazine the best but in the end I have decided to go with the block design as I think it is more suitable based on it's simplicity.

Pre-production planning

These were the early names for my music magazine. I first thought of beats but after thinking about it I then realised they are a make of headphones with that name which is why I then decided to replace the s with a z. But I still thought it sounded like the headphones. I then thought of bounce as the music genre of my magazine has a lively beat to it so people jump up and down to it in clubs and at festivals. But in the end I went for the title lyric as it is simple and will obviously fit in with the genre but most of all it reflects it because it's a gentle word and not harsh like you would use for a magazine about rock music.
